The Newest Wave in CBT:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for the

 Psychodynamically Trained Professional

 Dennis Tirch, PhD

 Friday, March 9, 2012

 7:00-9:00 PM

Cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychoanalysis have long been perceived as opposing treatments, from their therapeutic aims to techniques for intervention.  Recently, there has been interest in and acceptance of a more integrative model, in recognition that there is room for many ways of thinking and working.  Back by popular demand, Dr. Dennis Tirch returns to the PPSC annex™ to present the basic concepts and fundamental techniques that form the foundation of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  Considered the new wave of cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT can provide clinicians with new perspectives and powerful alternative therapeutic methods to help get our clients unstuck from their painful thoughts and feelings, and more deeply engaged in living a vital and meaningful life.

Dennis Tirch serves as the Associate Director at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy, and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College.  He is the author of the book The Compassionate Mind Approach to Overcoming Anxiety, and has co-authored books on emotion regulation, acceptance and mindfulness.  Dennis is a New York State licensed Psychologist, and a Diplomate and Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.  For more information, please visit www.mindfulcompassion.com.
